About Marta Emmitt

Marta Emmitt is American, born in New York City, and has lived all over the US, and in the UK for the past forty years. 

She did a BA in Creative Writing at the University of Colorado in Boulder and an MA in Theatre at Lancaster University. 

She taught for many years in an international school in Oxford, teaching Literature, Creative Writing (including Playwriting and Travel Writing) and Fantasy Literature. There she also ran theatre workshops for children and young adults and wrote scripts for them to perform. 

In 2000 she was shortlisted for the prestigious Verity Bargate award for emerging playwrights and was the resident dramatist at Soho Theatre that year.  

She has gone on to write plays, and film scripts and radio drama. 

She moved to Devon 12 years ago and now lives with her partner and a border collie called Billy in a very old house on Dartmoor and has been working for several years on a young adult novel, as well as writing short fiction. 

 She is a member of Exeter Writers and SHAN (South Hams Authors Network).

Last year she won both the Exeter Writers’ Devon prize and the SHAN flash fiction prize.
